USA TODAY Network via Reuters Connect \n\n[New Jersey’s noncitizen-voter scandal](https://nypost.com/2026/07/21/us-news/more-than-6000-non-citizens-registered-to-vote-in-nj-by-software-error-gov-sherrill-admits/) is proving a lot less simple that Gov. Mikie Sherrill claimed.\n\nShe [fingered an outside vendor](https://nypost.com/2026/07/22/us-news/software-vendor-says-nj-approved-6600-noncitizens-who-were-registered-to-vote/) for a software “glitch” that led to the state registering 6,600 noncitizens as voters, with some 400 actually casting ballots.\n\nBut her scapegoat, French tech firm IDEMIA, says it did nothing wrong —- giving Jersey the data it requested and even warning about the potential “error.”\n\nThis is no fly-by-night company: IDEMIA provides TSA PreCheck services and Motor Voter technology in dozens of states.\n\nAnd it was contracted to simply collect self-reported citizenship info and voter-registration interest, then send it along to the state Division of Elections, which manages voter enrollment.\n\nIn other words, it was Jersey’s Democrat-run agency that screwed up, albeit under then-Gov. Phil Murphy . . . who championed Sherrill as his successor.\n\nNote, too, that Sherrill’s team learned of the mess a week before she came clean, as the feds were thundering about nearly 270,000 noncitizens they’d ID’d on voter rolls across Jersey and three other states — more than [35,000 of them in the Garden State.](https://nypost.com/2026/07/21/opinion/noncitizens-voted-in-nj-so-naturally-mikie-sherrill-condemns-donald-trump/)\n\nThe [Justice Department gave](https://nypost.com/2026/07/22/us-news/doj-launches-investigation-into-how-new-jersey-put-6600-noncitizens-on-voter-rolls-gives-mikie-sherrill-five-day-deadline/) Sherrill five days to hand over the names, addresses and voting records of the thousands of noncitizens her DOE wrongly put on the rolls.\n\nAnd Homeland Security chief Markwayne Mullin is demanding records of every illegally note that his gripe is largely with how Democrats have undermined confidence with a long list of fraud-friendly “reforms” from [mass mail-in voting](https://nypost.com/2022/11/22/grand-jury-finds-numerous-instances-of-ballot-fraud-in-nyc-council-race-on-staten-island/) to [legalized third-party “ballot harvesting”](https://nypost.com/2023/11/06/opinion/election-fraud-is-no-myth-and-video-evidence-proves-it/) to automated voter registration — and, of course, an adamant refusal to require voter-ID, as the vast majority of Americans support.\n\nAll of which makes it look like Mikie’s scapegoating, stonewalling and sidestepping is about trying to protect _her party_, not her constituents.\n\nFiled
