We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.\n\n**Your support makes all the difference.**\n\nHundreds of thousands of disabled benefit claimants will soon face intrusive reassessments despite claiming for over a decade, as [the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP)](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/dwp-universal-credit-milestone-update-department-for-work-and-pensions-b3009137.html) restarts a changeover scheme.\n\nAs part of the closure of adult Disability Living Allowance (DLA) claims, these individuals will be [moved to the Personal Independence Payment (Pip)](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/pip-dwp-changes-trial-timms-review-benefits-b2992173.html) – the benefit currently at the centre of a government review.\n\nAlthough[still open for child claimants](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/dwp-benefits-payment-dates-cost-of-living-pensions-august-2026-b3016889.html), adults have not been able to claim DLA since 2013, when Pip was introduced as its replacement.\n\nThe DWP began inviting adult DLA claimants of the benefit to move over to the newer benefit in the same year, but this lengthy process was paused in 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.\n\nAround 153,000 adult DLA claimants still remain, the DWP has said, all of whom will now be invited to move to Pip.\n\nUndo\n\nUndo\n\n[](https://smallurl.cc/dffec0d8-e13d-4c2f-b3d1-320e438813f6)[Dermatologists Said Wrinkles Can't be Reduced.
