Israel dispatched a delegation of more than 30 officials from the Israel Defense Forces Home Front Command, the Foreign Ministry, and other agencies after twin earthquakes struck Venezuela on June 24, killing more than 3,800 people, injuring nearly 17,000 others, and leaving roughly 18,000 homeless, according to a top official from the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). Speaking Thursday with Brig. Gen. Elad Edri, commander of the Israeli aid delegation and chief of staff of the IDF Home Front Command, along with Israel’s ambassador designate to Mexico, Yoed Magen, Netanyahu said the mission is demonstrating “the true face of the State of Israel” to both the Venezuelan government and its people. “You are rebuilding ruins, and you are also rebuilding relations,” Netanyahu told the delegation. “You are showing the people of Venezuela, as well as the Venezuelan government, the true face of the State of Israel.” Netanyahu noted that Venezuela cut diplomatic ties with Israel nearly two decades ago, adding that the current mission illustrates “how beneficial it is to have ties with Israel.” The Israeli delegation has spent the past 10 days working alongside Venezuela’s Infrastructure Ministry, assessing damaged buildings, classifying structures, and helping develop a national reconstruction strategy. Israeli officials said the team drafted a nationwide reconstruction plan, which was approved by acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez following meetings with senior Venezuelan officials. Edri said the delegation has worked “day and night” with Venezuelan authorities and has also connected with the country’s Jewish community. “We are very proud to represent the country here,” Edri said. “Both official representatives and the Venezuelan people have been very warm toward the delegation.” Venezuela severed diplomatic relations with Israel in 2009 under Hugo Chávez after Israel’s military operation in Gaza. Under Chávez and later Nicolás Maduro, Caracas became one of Israel’s fiercest critics. Israeli officials have expressed optimism about improving ties after the United States captured Maduro in January and backed Rodríguez as Venezuela’s acting president. Netanyahu said Edri and Israel’s disaster-response infrastructure have “a lot of experience dealing with ruins due to the rocket barrages of our enemies.” “We didn’t ask questions about who and what,” Netanyahu said. “We asked: ‘What needs to be done to help?'”","source_name":"The Daily Wire","source_url":"https://www.dailywire.com/news/israeli-earthquake-mission-opens-door-to-renewed-venezuela-ties","url":"https://www.dailywire.com/news/israeli-earthquake-mission-opens-door-to-renewed-venezuela-ties","author":"Leona Salinas","author_name":"Leona Salinas","published_at":"2026-07-10T15:53:47.000Z","publication_date":"2026-07-10T15:53:47.000Z","image_url":null,"category":"politics","topic":"politics","tags":[],"political_bias":null,"bias_score":null,"confidence_score":null,"credibility_score":null,"factual_quality":null,"reading_time":2,"word_count":393,"view_count":0,"breaking":false,"breaking_news":false,"ai_analysis":null,"fact_check_status":"unverified","archive_status":"hot"}}
