Read our[Privacy notice](https://www.independent.co.uk/service/privacy-policy-a6184181.html)\n\n \n\nFour[men were shot](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/crime/chico-library-shooting-suspect-bradley-sayer-b3001766.html) while trying to break up a fight between a man and a woman in [San Francisco](https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/san-francisco-buried-treasure-hunt-b2979114.html) on Saturday, police said.\n\nThe shooting happened just before 1 a.m. on the corner of Mason and Market streets in the city’s downtown Tenderloin District, San Francisco [police told SFGate.](https://www.sfgate.com/news/bayarea/article/sf-4-shot-in-tenderloin-while-trying-to-break-up-22360239.php)\n\nThe men who were shot were trying to intervene in an altercation between a man and woman, both of whom were strangers to them.\n\nAs the group of good Samaritans tried to stop the pair from arguing, the man pulled out a firearm and shot them, police said.\n\nAll four of the men were hospitalized with injuries, but are expected to survive.
