The IDF confirmed on Tuesday that soldiers fired warning shots after Lebanese Armed Forces personnel crossed approximately 150 meters into Israel's security zone near Zawtar al-Sharqiyah in southern Lebanon, accompanied by an engineering vehicle.
According to an IDF spokesperson statement, the Lebanese forces breached barriers in the area, which the military said was "contrary to the understandings between the parties." The area is not part of the pilot zone designated under the framework agreement.
The IDF stated that soldiers fired warning shots into the air only, which it said did not endanger the Lebanese personnel, in order to distance them from the area. The Lebanese Armed Forces personnel subsequently withdrew, and no injuries were reported.
The IDF called on the Lebanese Armed Forces to continue operating "in accordance with the understandings and within the agreed areas," warning that "any deviation" would be addressed.
The IDF issued its statement in response to a statement released by the Lebanese Army regarding the incident, which marks another escalation in ongoing tensions along the Blue Line.
