President Trump announced Friday he would ban CNN, MS NOW, and Politico from the White House, effective immediately. The declaration escalates his ongoing conflict with news organizations whose coverage he opposes.
The following Saturday morning, journalists from CNN and MS NOW were denied entry to the White House grounds. CNN reported that its correspondent Betsy Klein was turned away, and a reporter and photographer from MS NOW were also blocked.
Trump stated the ban was a response to what he called the outlets' constant reporting of "fake news." According to NRK, he did not provide any concrete examples to support the accusation.
The move represents an effort to use White House access as leverage against media outlets. Trump also indicated that other news organizations could be added to the ban, per CBS News.
