An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and wounded a 28-year-old Venezuelan national in Austin, Texas, on Sunday. The lawyer for Wilber Rafael Garces Perez identified him as the victim, with officials reporting he was shot at least once in the torso and was in serious but stable condition.
Representative Greg Casar responded to the shooting with demands for transparency. "ICE shot a man in Austin today. I'm demanding transparency, accountability, and safety. Release the footage and records. Hold any officer who broke the law responsible. And get ICE out of our city," the representative stated.
Meanwhile, US and Chinese officials held talks in New York on Sunday, discussing the creation of a mechanism to communicate about potentially serious AI incidents. These discussions occurred as both nations sought progress on technology and trade issues ahead of this week's summit between President Trump and President Xi.
