# Fast-moving Dove Fire wreaks havoc as mass evacuations at ‘the gateway to Yosemite’ town
A wildfire is spreading at a dangerous rate [near a Yosemite gateway town](https://nypost.com/2022/07/24/yosemite-wildfire-tears-through-20-square-miles-in-one-day/) and has forced mandatory evacuations.
The blaze is moving quickly to several hundred acres near the Tuolumne County city of Sonora in the [Sierra Nevada foothills](https://nypost.com/2026/06/24/us-news/sunglasses-rescue-goes-horribly-wrong-as-camper-plunges-into-california-vault-toilet-tank/) Sunday afternoon.
It forced evacuations and closed roads as firefighters worked to contain the blaze.
